He is more than just your average inspiration, he IS GET SOME™. Read on to learn more about the one and only Fast Heart Mart!!!!

When did you decide this was a passion you wanted to follow and live in this life? What helped you come to this decision?

I knew I wanted to be a rock star from an early age. I did not know how I would do it until I was about 12, when my friend Steve Silenski came over to my house with his electric guitar. He knew songs like “Fight for Your Right” by the Beastie Boys and Guns ‘n Roses and Poisin. He made me sing the words as he did not sing. I knew then that I had to learn to play guitar and write songs. Who needs a psychologist when you’ve got Rock and Roll!

What were the reactions from peers and family when you set out to embark on your journey of dreams?

I guess for a long time I was in the closet about my rock and roll dream. I would write songs and play in my room all the time. I didn’t really play a real show until I was 22 and living in New Mexico.

I played on the UNM campus for tips at first, which helped me eat as I was unemployed at the time. A guy who owned a cafe heard me out there and asked if I’d play at his cafe. That was my first real show! I think I made $10 and that was when I decided to go for it!

I dropped out of college and focused on it. A wise man once told me ” If you have something to fall back on, you will”. In other words, if you have a safety net to fall onto then you will.

My family has been super supportive of my dream. Most of my friends have been too. The ones who aren’t supportive, I get rid of. There’s been some haters along the way, but I’ve learned to shut them out.

So now tell us about the meaning behind the name Fast Heart Mart.

All my life I had been passing out for unknown reasons. When I was 17 I passed out in high school one day and knocked out my front teeth! Finally a doctor was able to diagnose my ailment: a heart condition called Long QT syndrome. It makes my heart beat fast or quiver and not pump blood! Doctors have told me I was dead.

That summer after graduating high school a friend and I went hiking the Appalchian trail. Everyone had a trail name and mine was Fast Heart Mart.

A few years later I decided to make it my stage name.

Your band has a unique raw sound to it, what kind of music would you say you all make?

I like to call my music sidewalk rock. Partly because I play on the street so much, but also because I like to creative sound that can be done anywhere, anytime; even on the sidewalk!

I like to mix up the sound. A nice acoustic rock ballad here, a hard driving rappy rant there, a long raga here, a rock and roll number there, and a banjo tune here.

What is your favorite track by Fast Heart Mart?

It changes all the time. Right now it’s a new song I’m writing called “Letting Go”. My favorite that’s avaiable for download would probably be “Hearts and Dreams” or “Depression Proof” right now. They are banjo songs. I’ve been playing alot of banjo here in Virginia lately.

In your pursuits to live your dreams, has there been any moments where it became rough living out the life as an artist and you wanted to quit?
How did you dig deep and GET SOME in order to keep yourself going?

Never. It’s been a bed of roses. Just Kidding ;-)

Yes, Ive almost quit many times. Miraculously, everytime I almost quit something comes along and pulls me back in. One time it was being invited to the New Mexico showcase, one time it was the fact that a producer from Showtime was interested in my music, but it’s usually a nice letter from the fans that gets me back into action.

Also, I really did not like school and what else am I going to do? Work at some job I dont like for the rest of my life? I mean, I’ve worked very hard at various jobs through the years, but one day I know my music will pay off and I’ll be able to just do that and make more  money and joy  doing it than I ever would at a job….look at Jimmy Buffet :-)

One if the many things I learned hiking the Appalachian trail was that when you feel completely exhausted, take a break and stay in a hotel for a few days and eat lots of good food until you feel reinspired. I do that a lot. When the joy is gone, it’s time to take a break.

What does GET SOME mean to you?

It means finally finding the pot o gold at the end of the rainbow. I’m not really obsessed with money, but someone along the line decided to make this a capitalistic society and it makes things really difficult to not have money.

But joy is the real prize. I wanna Get Some!

Yes, friends and there it is. The GET SOME mojo behind FAST HEART MART! He overcame and is still overcoming heart complications, putting on show after show and never giving up!  My current favorite track by Fast Heart Mart is Hearts and Dreams, as it captures the spirit of the GET SOME™  movement well , and you can never be told too many times to follow your heart and go for what makes you happy. Just let it all go, and go. Go and create!!! And for that, Fast Heart Mart more than deserves the official stamp of GET SOME™
